Café-to-deli operator Benugo has added the Science Museum, London, to its burgeoning portfolio of museum contracts in a deal worth £25m in sales.

The five-year deal was won from incumbent operator Elior, and will see Benugo operate four outlets within the museum, as well as pop-up cafés.

Modern menus appealing to the venue's broad demographic of visitors will be created, featuring seasonal ingredients, while the museum's dining spaces will undergo refurbishment over a six-month period, commencing in May.

Benugo founder Ben Warner said: "We are really excited to be working closely with the team at the Science Museum to create a unique offering that will revolutionise the way visitors enjoy food and drink in one of London's most iconic museums."

John Barford, head of commercial development at the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI), said that the Science Museum was looking to "lead the way through its food offering as it does through its cultural content".

"Benugo particularly demonstrated a great passion for good-quality food as well as a real focus on customer service and an instinctive understanding of the variety of people who visit the Science Museum. We look forward to working with them," he added.

A spokesman for Elior confirmed the contract loss but added that it had retained the NMSI contract at the National Media Museum in Bradford.

Benugo currently operates the catering services at the Natural History Museum and V&A Museum and it won the catering contract for National Museums Scotland last month.
