10 country properties join forces to launch managerial training
Ten of the UK's leading country properties have joined forces to create a unique hospitality managerial training programme.
After an intensive selection process, 10 candidates will be chosen to undertake a 25-month paid training programme, spending a five-month period at each of five allocated hotels and restaurants, where they will cover a different discipline at each - kitchen, restaurant, housekeeping/maintenance and human resources, sales/marketing, and reception/reservations.
Sue William, general manager of the Bath Priory, one of the businesses providing the training, said the scheme - called Ten out of Ten - had been born out of regular meetings held between the properties to discuss common problems.
"One of the key issues that affects us all is the ongoing shortage of skills," she explained. "As a result we have put together a scheme that will provide a top notch training opportunity for some of the industry's best candidates."
At the end of the training programme there may be an opportunity for the trainees to take up a six-month placement in one of the nine hotels or the Fat Duck as either duty manager or host manager.
Candidates need to be at least 18 years old and have had at least one year's hands-on experience in the industry within a four or five-star hotel. Applications will also be considered from anyone who has recently graduated with an industry-related qualification, so long as they also have completed one year's work experience.
Williams said she hopes the training programme will be an ongoing initiative.
