London’s largest casino is set to open at midnight on the 30 May when the 50,000sq ft Casino at the Empire is unveiled to West End punters.

Despite the recent rejection by the House of Lords of proposals for 17 new casinos, including the ill-fated supercasino in Manchester, London Clubs International has succeeded in rejuvenating the former Empire Ballroom.

It will be the second high-profile casino for London Clubs International after Manchester’s 235 opened last October at the cost of £13m and creating 350 jobs.

As well as having 30 gaming tables, the site also includes two restaurants, the Flame – a grillroom accommodating 65 covers specialising in meat – and Fu Lu Shou, an Asian-themed diner with 45 covers.

It will also include a range of informal dining outlets such as coffee bar Mocha, five bars and an American-themed ice cream parlour.

The building was designed by Las Vegas firm, Paul Steelman Design Group, who also designed the Mirage and Sands Macau in the spiritual home of gambling.
