Craig James leaves D&D to go solo

Craig JamesCraig James, the former head chef of D&D London’s Quaglino’s and Butlers Wharf Chop House restaurants, has left the company to open his own venture.

Brasserie James, which will open on 27 June, will be a 46-seat neighbourhood restaurant in Clapham, south London.

It will serve a modern British menu at affordable prices with a focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

James, a former Acorn winner, will be joined by Ben Farragher from Butlers Wharf Chop House in the kitchen, while restaurant manager will be former Paternoster Chop House manager Tamsin Genge.

James said his aim is to create the type neighbourhood restaurant that people want to go to once or twice a week.

“That’s why I am being particularly competitive with pricing,” he said. “I want to make it affordable so people can be spontaneous and drop in for a bite to eat.”

Dishes at Brasserie James will include Cornish skate wing with salsify and chanterelles; salt marsh lamb cutlets with pommes sarladaise, spinach and rosemary; and Kentish strawberries with vanilla parfait. Average spend will be £30 for three courses with wine.
