Legacy Hotels and Resorts adds two Sussex hotels

Legacy Hotels and Resorts has taken over the management of two hotels in East Sussex, taking its portfolio of bedrooms up to more than 2,000.

The group is to operate the 53-bedromm White Hart hotel in Lewes and the 47-bedroom Boship Farm hotel (pictured) in Lower Dicker, near Halisham. Both hotels are owned by the Ayris family.

Cliff Ayris said that recent years have been very tough operating as an independent hotelier. "I felt the time was right to hand over the day-to-day management of both hotels to an experienced and flexible operator," he explained.

"Legacy Hotels and Resorts have built an enviable reputation across the UK for their expertise in running a mix of three- and four-star hotels and I am confident both properties will go from strength to strength under their direction and guidance."

Andy Townsend, chief executive officer of Legacy Hotels and Resorts, said he would be looking to reposition the hotels in their local marketplace, with the benefit that a national group of Legacy's scale could deliver.

"This is our first foray into the East Sussex market and we are looking forward to meeting the local community," he said.

"The White Hart hotel has retained its historic charm; it dates back to the 16th century with a wealth of original oak beams, Tudor fireplaces and oak panelling, while having modern facilities.

"Only a short distance away is the Boship Farm hotel, which has built a great reputation for hosting local weddings, banquets and has good transport links to the South-east of England for corporate travellers and events.

Legacy now has a portfolio of 34 three- and four-star hotels in UK and Spain, and expects to make further announcements of new properties in the next few weeks.
