Noise complaints threaten licence of Guy Ritchie pub

The Punchbowl

The licence of Guy Ritchie’s pub, the Punchbowl, could be in jeopardy after Westminster City Council received 37 complaints about noise since March last year.

In an attempt to reduce the disturbance managers have now enforced a rule of bringing customers inside at 9pm and door supervisors have also been installed at the central London pub.

The Council attached a microphone to a neighbouring home for two weeks to measure decibel levels, which found noise levels drop sharply at 9pm. It will now analyse whether the noise level is significant enough to cause a nuisance. If it is found to be a considerable problem, council officers or nearby residents will be able to call for a review of the licence.

In the case that a review occurs, the licence could be suspended or revoked. However, it is thought to be most likely that a condition concerning outdoor drinking will be implemented.

It is the latest in a series of unfavourable news for the film director’s first foray into hospitality. In August last year he faced allegations of charging tourists and locals different amounts and hiking up costs.
