Contract caterer BaxterStorey has entered a new five-year contract with Barclays Bank which will see the group extend its catering operation to all non-branch offices within Barclays nationwide.

As part of the contract, BaxterStorey will deliver services to 24,000 employees at 18 locations through a combination of staff restaurants, deli bars and coffee shops.

It will also cater for Barclays’ internal hospitality requirements and manage its business and client entertaining. In addition, the company will assume responsibility for a vending service throughout the network.

The new deal, estimated by an industry expert to be a multi-million pound contract, is a large extension of BaxterStorey’s original involvement with the bank. In 2004 the caterer was appointed to provide catering services at Barclays’ head office One Churchill Place in Canary Wharf, which at the time was a new building.

Alastair Storey, chief executive, BaxterStorey, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to continue to work with Barclays and we’re looking forward to developing services further.

BaxterStorey will continue to work with Barclays’ chosen facilities management service operator Johnson Controls when its new contract term commences 1 January 2010.

As part of Barclays’ amalgamation of all non-branch operations into one contract, 180 employees from previous service providers Aramark and Compass will transfer to BaxterStorey’s employment from 4 January 2010, under TUPE regulations.
