Andrew Stembridge crowned Hotelier of the Year

Andrew Stembridge, managing director of Chewton Glen, has been named the 2010 Hotelier of the Year.

He is the fourth hotelier from Chewton Glen in New Milton, Hampshire, to win the coveted award, sponsored by Casna.

At the presentation ceremony at Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Evershot, Dorset, Stembridge met up with his predecessors who had carried off the award - Martin Skan, the founder of the hotel, Robin Hutson, who won the award after leaving the hotel to set up Hotel du Vin, and Peter Crome, now at Skibo Castle in Scotland.

Stembridge, who at 39 is one of the youngest recipients of the 28-year-old award, said that being named Hotelier of the Year was the proudest moment of his career.

One of the judges, Harry Murray, chairman of Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa and the 1986 Hotelier of the Year, described Stembridge as "an inspirational leader who has created a highly motivated and skilled team that consistently exceeds guests' expectations."
