Strong January sales suggest London hotels are on track for another record year, according to the latest HotStats figures from TRI Hospitality Consulting.
“London has consistently been a strong performer over the past three years and it looks set to have a fourth consecutive record year,” said TRI managing director Jonathan Langston.
“January is historically one of the weaker months for hotels and it will take until after Easter before there is a clear trend for the year,” he added.
Revenue per available room (revpar) soared by 14.8% in the capital during the first month of 2007, rising from £66.10 to £75.88.
Most of the increase stemmed from the 12.8% hike in room rate to £104.09 (up from £92.29 in January 2007). Occupancy nudged ahead by 1.3 points to 72.9%.
Regional hotels continued their steady progress with a 4.8% rise in revpar to £40.66 (from £38.81).
Although occupancy grew by just 0.8 points to 58.6%, room rate rose by 3.3%, from £67.11 to £69.35.
