Compass staff caught up in RBS job losses

Catering staff have been caught up in the turmoil surrounding the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which announced a record UK corporate loss of £24.1b last week.

The bank, which was nationalised last year, is predicted to make huge job cuts in an effort to turn the business around.

Employees of Compass, which provides catering and hospitality services at RBS’s Gogarburn headquarters in Edinburgh, have not escaped the cull, with the caterer in consultation with up to 90 staff over redundancy.

Compass, which has seen the demand for business hospitality at RBS fall and hours at the social club it also provides services for reduced, said it had had no choice but to match resources to demand.

However, a spokesman for Compass added: “There are unfilled positions across the company, so where possible we are hoping to redeploy staff and minimise the number of redundancies.”
