David Cameron to push through minimum alcohol pricing
David Cameron is set to push ahead with plans to introduce minimum alcohol pricing.
According to reports, the prime minister will face down a cabinet backlash and approve a minimum price of 40p per unit.
The weekend papers claimed that Cabinet Secretary Jeremy Heywood convened a special meeting at No 10 on Thursday to discuss the issue after it was debated at the Home Affairs Committee.
It has been suggested that George Osborne will announce the intention to introduce the measure in the Budget on 21 March, with a minimum price to come into force in April 2015.
