Survey reveals hospitality most thrifty sector

Thursday 05 May 2005 11:14

Hospitality and leisure employees travel more than any other sector but are also the most conscious of cost, according to a new survey.

When quizzed over their travel habits, hospitality and leisure employees said they placed the most emphasis on convenience and the ability to budget.

More than half of those surveyed in the 2004-2005 Barclaycard Business Travel Survey believe business class flights do not offer value for money, with 74% saying the service isn’t worth the price premium.

Although workers in the sector do more business travel than any other, they were more likely to fly on low-cost airlines.

Budgets also have an impact on hotel choice, with 69% saying they book accommodation purely on price and location.

The survey also showed that 88% of leisure and catering employees enjoy travelling for business because it gives them experience of a new culture.

Tim Carlier, head of card issuing at Barclaycard, said: “Workers in the leisure and catering industry appear to be leading the way when it comes to saving money and time. Their knowledge of the industry may give them an insight which other sectors lack.”
