The man responsible for the Berkshire rail crash at a level-crossing near Reading was a chef at a local conference centre and golf club.
Brian Drysdale, 48, finished his shift at the Wokefield Park conference centre in Mortimer, Berkshire, at 5.30pm on Saturday, before driving to the level crossing at Ufton Nervet and parking his car across it. His actions resulted in the death of six passengers on the 5.35pm London to Plymouth service.
A statement on behalf of the conference centre, part of the Rentokil Initial group, said: "We confirm that Brian Drysdale was a valued member of our catering team for the past 15 months and we are shocked by the news of his involvement in this terrible tragedy."
Media reports suggested that Drysdale's motive was suicide, but the police had refused to confirm this as Caterer went to Press.
