Firmdale buy back Dorset Square hotel

Dorset Square, the property which launched Firmdale Hotels in 1985 - and introduced a new breed of luxury, boutique hotels to the London market - has been bought back by the company.

Firmdale sold the 37-bedroom hotel eight years ago, but have now acquired it back after it fell into administration earlier this year.

The hotel is currently closed while it undergoes a major refurbishment and will reopen at the end of 2011.

Director of marketing and PR at Firmdale, Craig Markham, said that Firmdale's owners, Tim and Kit Kemp, decided to buy back the hotel because they regard the Marylebone area where it is situated to be a great location.

"They also have a lot of fondness for the building given that it was their first hotel," he said. "Kit is currently working on the interior design and it will look very different from the country house style during their previous ownership. The new design will show how her style has evolved in recent years and will be more in line with some of our other hotels, such as the Haymarket (pictured)."

Firmdale now has seven hotels in London and one - Crosby Street - in New York. It has also just received planning permission to develop a 90-bedroom hotel with 24 apartments and 12 retail stores at Ham Yard in Soho.

Set to open in 2013, the property is set to become Firmdale's flagship hotel and will include a restaurant, bar, 120-seat cinema and bowling alley.
