St Pancras Renaissance opens - officially

The 245-bedroom St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London officially opens today with a grand celebratory party this evening.

Costing in excess of £200m to develop, the property is being relaunched 138 years to the day it originally opened as the Midland Grand Hotel.

Owned by Harry Handelsman of the Manhatten Loft Corporation, the Grade I-listed building will be home to the much-anticipated Gilbert Scott Restaurant from Marcus Wareing.

"This is really one of the most amazing and beautiful buildings in the UK and I am delighted to have helped to breathe new life into it," said Handelsman.

"I really believe that this can be the most magnificent five-star hotel in London. Marcus Wareing is in my opinion one of the greatest British chefs and it is a huge endorsement for him to open a restaurant here.

Handelsman admitted that the location of the hotel could be a challenge, but said he strongly believed that creating such a unique property - with special elements such as Wareing's restaurant, a royal suite which is believed to be one of the largest in the capital, and a traditional barber shop from Carmelo Guastella - would help to make the St Pancras Renaissance a sought-after destination.
