Whitbread has opened its second Taybarns site, taking the all-you-can-eat buffet concept to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The second site, following a five-month trial of the concept in Swansea, will open on 10 June near the Metro centre in the city.

It is believed that further Taybarns sites are being planned for Barnsley, Coventry, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Wigan although a spokeswoman for Whitbread said opening dates were yet to be confirmed.

Joanne Cox, marketing manager at Taybarns, said of the North-east opening:

“Taybarns has proved to be a really popular concept at our initial trial site and it has been well received by customers who enjoy a variety of choice at a fantastic price.  We are now looking forward to bringing this new eating experience and great choice of food to Newcastle.”

Guests at a Taybarns can choose from salad, soup, grill, wok, rotisserie, carvery, pizza, pasta and desserts all at one fixed price.

Food is served in an open kitchen format with guests engaging with various station chefs to have their food prepared before them.

Meals are priced at £5.95 per head on Monday to Friday until 5.30pm and at £7.95 per head at all other times. Meals for children are £4.50.

The Newcastle site was previously a Brewers Fayre. Whitbread is also rolling out its new Table Table brand in Brewers Fayre sites across the UK.
