
Radisson arrives in the Ukraine
Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts has opened its first hotel in the Ukraine. The Radisson SAS Kiev cost £33.5m to develop and has 255 rooms, including 22 suites. The hotel, which is situated in the diplomatic area of the city, 34km west of Boryspil International Airport, is primarily focused on business travellers and corporate clients. Its conference facilities cover 407sq m, holding up to 250 guests.
Jumeirah to run new hotel
Dubai International Properties has appointed hotel chain Jumeirah to manage a new five-star hotel at Dubai Towers - Doha. The hotel will have 146 rooms and suites, as well as a business centre, ballrooms, meeting rooms and an executive boardroom.
Equity Inns buys four more US properties
Equity Inns, the US real estate investment trust, is to buy four hotels from development and management company Hospitality Specialists. The $25.9m (£14m) deal is to be completed soon and includes one Marriott and three Hilton branded hotels in Michigan and Illinois. The hotels will increase Equity Inn's portfolio to 122 hotels in 35 US states.
More rooms needed in New Delhi
New Delhi faces a serious shortage of hotel rooms, with more than additional 10,000 rooms needed before the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Since the 1982 Asian Games, which were held in the Indian capital, a mere 2,000 hotel rooms have been added to the city. This brings the total number of rooms in the capital region to 8,500 in all star categories. Anil Bhandari, managing director at Travel House, said: "It is high time the government recognised tourism as an economic activity."
Health spa for Angra dos Reis
Pestana Angra Beach Bungalows, in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, has opened a health spa. Shishindo Nature Spa is located in a 300sq m structure featuring wood, stone floors and natural-fibre roofing. It comprises a master suite with treatment facilities for couples, a therapy gazebo, dressing rooms, a yoga lounge, a water treatment centre and a deck for physical exercise.
