John Walsh of The Independent finds the Fifth Floor restaurant tasteful, pretty, agreeable… and bland

Among the weekend's restaurant revews, John Walsh of The Independent finds everything about the Fifth Floor restaurant at Harvey Nichols to be perfectly agreeable. The design is tasteful, the food is pretty, but the overall experience is rather bland.

Eating at the Riverford Field Kitchen, set in a Devon field, is a much more rustic affair, writes Susy Atkins in the Sunday Telegraph. This is where chef Jane Baxter and her team cook dishes made almost entirely from Riverford Organic Vegetables, the largest vegetables box scheme in the UK. The result is meal that packs a punch and Atkins loves.

Jay Rayner is initially disappointed - from both its web presence and exterior - in Patform, which is found close to London Bridge station. It has none of the glamour that he remembers from teenage visits across to renowned restaurants adjacent to major train stations throughout Europe. But once he tucks into the menu - dominated by an impressive selections of meats - Rayner is won over.

Finally, AA Gill says L'Art du Fromage in London SW10 is a "real ripe find". The room is simple and small with 65 different French cheeses on display in a chiller cabinet. Here he enjoys "an authentic French menu of the type you remember from your childhood, with some amazing cheese".
