Kornicis Group opens new Jamies Wine Bar site in London's Tudor Street
London-based bar firm Kornicis Group has launched a new Jamies Wine Bar site, after it opened a venue in Tudor Street.
The new site, previously the Witness Box, opened for trading yesterday after contracts were signed on Monday. Kornicis is thought to have paid around £80,000 for the leasehold, in a deal brokered by property agent Christie + Co.
The two-storey site, just a few minutes' walk from Blackfriars station, offers more than 20 wines by the glass. With Christmas approaching, it will trade in its current format, with a full refurbishment planned for January.
Kornicis Group will also close Borough Bar, situated at the bottom of the Shard, after Christmas for up to six weeks for a Jamies makeover.
Kornicis Group runs more than 20 bars and restaurants, with others under the Smollensky's and Henry J Bean's formats. The company was formed in August 2008, when NBGI PE acquired 17 bars and restaurants from the Food and Drink Group. It is run by CEO Nick Tamblyn, former chief executive of Chorion. The firm took on three further sites through the acquisition of the Smollensky's brand in November 2008.
There are plans to further expand the Jamies brand, with new sites likely for the City of London as well as the West End, Covent Garden and Soho.
In 2010, the company acquired a site in Creechurch Lane close to the Gherkin which was converted to the Jamies format. Two further Jamies were opened in 2011 near St Paul's Cathedral and Monument. During 2012 Kornicis has opened a further two Jamies sites on Alban Gate (London Wall) and Tudor Street.
