Claudia Lawrence: missing since March 2009

The father of missing York University chef Claudia Lawrence has vowed to continue the campaign to find his daughter, despite the emotional toll it is taking.

Claudia Lawrence disappeared on 18 March last year and police are now considering that she was attacked by a stranger, having drawn a blank examining her relationships with a number of men.

But Peter Lawrence told the Daily Telegraph that he will keep the campaign going. He said: “I will never give this up. I believe my daughter is still alive – the hope is just as strong.”

Before Christmas, the detective leading the investigation appealed for anyone living along the route between her home in York and a kitchen at York University to report anything suspicious, even if it happened after the event.

Detective superintendent Ray Galloway added: “The primary focus has been on the fact we think Claudia went with someone she knew or trusted. But there is also the scenario that she was taken by someone she didn’t know – a stranger.”

Peter Lawrence is now making plans for a Claudia Awareness Day on her 36th birthday to keep her disappearance in the public consciousness. The event, to be held in York on 27 February will follow one in London the day before. It joins other profile raising initiatives such as a Facebook page and the findclaudia.co.uk website.

Using foraged ingredients is nothing new but the trend has become more mainstream over the past two years. However, the wider use of foraged food in restaurants also carries a certain amount of danger.
