De Vere Academy launches new Apprentice scheme

The De Vere Academy of Hospitality is to launch a new one year apprenticeship to provide young people with a fully-comprehensive training programme.

Since the Academy was set up nearly two years ago, it has offered two apprenticeship schemes – a 12-week programme in customer service and a 16-week course in professional cookery.

Following consultation with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), the Academy’s training programme has been redesigned to fit with the new apprenticeship standards. It will formally launch on 1 February 2012.

The De Vere Apprenticeship programme will now last a minimum of 12 months with all apprentices in full employment with the De Vere group or one of its partners following the successful completion of a short Access to Apprenticeships phase, prior to commencing their apprenticeships.

Simon Waugh, chief executive, National Apprenticeship Service, said the new programme will meet the specific needs of employers in the sector and young people wanting to work in hospitality.

"Working in partnership with De Vere we will help small employers to access the recently announced wage incentive and engage in the apprenticeship programme."

Kellie Rixon, managing director of the De Vere Academy said: “At a time of increasing youth unemployment, the De Vere Academy now has an even more robust structure that will allow more and more young people to become stars in the UK catering, hospitality, and service sectors, and we look forward to continue working closely with all of our valued partners who support us in our joint initiative.

"We are grateful for this further collaboration, support, and development being undertaken with NAS and we look forward to the continued strength of our relationship.”

The Academy operates training centres throughout the UK in locations  which include London, Liverpool, Crewe, Milton Keynes and Stockport.
