GEORGE McIVOR, executive chef for Baxters food group, has been appointed Scottish chairman of the Master Chefs of Britain. The role will involve supporting the government's healthy eating plan and supporting initiatives aimed at young chefs throughout Scotland.
LIAM SWIFT has joined the Corus-owned Maids Head hotel in Norwich as deputy general manager. He was previously food and beverage manager for Greens Health and Fitness, part of the De Vere Hotels and Leisure group.
SIMON MATTHEWS-WILLIAMS is stepping down from his role of managing director at Centre Island Hotels, which owns properties across Merseyside, to concentrate on his recently opened Anderson's Bar, Liverpool. Business partner and chairman
MICHAEL O'DONOGHUE will buy Matthews-Williams's 40% stake in Centre Island Hotels, taking full control of the business.
Malmaison hotel group has appointed
ANTHONY THWAITES hotel manager of its Glasgow hotel. He was previously operations manager at the company's Manchester hotel.
STUART KENNEDY also becomes hotel manager at the group's Edinburgh hotel, moving from the same role at Malmaison Newcastle.
City Centre recruitment has taken on
JENNIE WESTOBY as a senior consultant at its Oxford Circus House offices in London. She was previously senior staffing manager for Compass Catering's Payne & Gunter major events team.
PETER CROWHURST has been appointed by ING Real Estate as general manager and developer of the Shanghai Racquet Club & Apartments, Shanghai China. He previously worked as general manager for Chinese food producer COFCO International in Beijing.
PHILIP WALTERS has been appointed head chef at the Renaissance London Heathrow hotel. He was previously head chef at the Old Swan hotel in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
DES CALDWELL joins as director of food and beverage from the International Hotel Canary Wharf, London, where he was executive assistant manager.
NICHOLAS CARN takes on the role of director of rooms operations for the Renaissance London Heathrow hotel. He was previously assistant operations manager at the Marriott Hanbury Manor hotel & country club in Ware, Hertfordshire.
AMANDA SMYTH is the new marketing manager for the Yorkshire Tourist Board, which is based in York. She was previously a tourism marketing executive at Wiltshire Tourism, Trowbridge.
JEAN-CLAUDE ELGAIRE, chief concierge of the Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris, has been elected president of the international association of hotel concierges (Les Clefs d'Or).
Portfolio International has taken on several new recruits at its London office.

DAVID LINDSAY has joined Swindon-based conference and accommodation booking agency Venues Unlimited as financial director. He was previously financial director with Brown Rock, a hotel and tour operator.
