Sam and Eddie Hart to relaunch Quo Vadis

Quo Vadis, Soho, London

Sam and Eddie Hart, proprietors of London tapas restaurants Fino and Barrafina, are to relaunch iconic Soho eaterie Quo Vadis as a “hotel-style grill room” in May.

The brothers, who acquired Quo Vadis from Conduit Street Restaurants late last year, are currently refurbishing the restaurant and plan to reopen it as a British-style brasserie.

The restaurant will include a 90-cover dining room with a small bar on the ground floor, as well as a private members’ club spread over the first and second floors including two private dining rooms and a large bar.

Head chef will be Jean-Philippe Petruno, who is currently head chef at Fino, with former Groucho Club manager Hannes Wolters overseeing the club.

Eddie Hart told Caterersearch he and his brother Sam were “extremely excited” about the project. “Quo Vadis has a great history both as a building having been the former residence of Karl Marx and having been a restaurant since 1926,” he said.

“It went downhill slightly in recent years so we want to give it lots of love and attention to create a fantastic restaurant and return it to its former glory.”

Conduit Street Restaurants, headed up by Stephen Schaffer and Joseph Ettedgui, acquired Quo Vadis along with Drones and The Mirabelle from Marco Pierre White in November.

The pair shut Mirabelle last month for a six-month refurbishment, with all 50 members of staff having been let go. The restaurant, which is due to reopen this summer, will receive a 1930s-style makeover to restore it to its former glory – it was first opened in 1936.
