Conference: work permit lowdown

Monday 24 March 2003 17:11
A new Government scheme to be launched this year will mean that an additional 20,000 work permits will be granted for low-skilled temporary employees taking jobs in the hospitality industry.

The work permits, which will go to workers from countries such as Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary and Poland, could go a long way towards tackling the skills shortage as workers take positions as chefs, cleaners and bar staff.

You can learn more about the new managed migration schemes, and how they could benefit your business, from Chris Jones of Work Permits UK, when he speaks at the BHA's conference, "Temporary Labour: Making it work for you".

The conference, aimed at HR directors and managers of hotels, restaurants and other catering outlets, is being held on 26 March at London's Royal Society of Arts.

Employment legislation, best practice and the vital issue of temporary workers' perception of the hospitality industry, will also be addressed in the half-day conference, which is being supported by Caterer as well as companies such as the Berkeley Scott Group, Portfolio International and the Mayday Group.

Book your place by calling Camilla Woods at the BHA on 0845 880 7744. Places cost £95, including lunch.
