Hospitality operators wanted for £1b Swansea city redevelopment

Councillors in Swansea have today called for restaurant, bar and pub operators to get involved in a planned £1b redevelopment of the city centre and waterfront area.

Launching a framework to redevelop the city in South-west Wales during the next 15 to 20 years and maximise the potential of Swansea Bay, officials are now seeking hospitality businesses to come on board.

Stage one of the regeneration will see expansion of the city’s St David’s shopping centre area into a mixed-use development.

This will be followed by a new £400m waterfront development next to the Sail Bridge, which spans the river Tawe and will support a range of hospitality and retail businesses around a large piazza.

Swansea council leader Chris Holley said: “We want to fulfil the city’s potential by encouraging developers to revitalise existing sites and bring massive improvement in the number and quality of shops and stores in the city centre.”
