Coca-Cola collector creates US-style diner in his garage

Thursday 06 April 2000 00:00

A 1950s-style US diner packed with period artefacts and a giant Wurlitzer jukebox has been lovingly re-created in businessman John Attrill's garage.

Attrill has collected US memorabilia for years as a hobby and hit on the idea of turning his garage at Wellington, Somerset, into a diner.

"I have always been fascinated by Coca-Cola items and thought I should somehow display them rather than just collect them. Many of the items come from a friend who scours flea markets in Florida, although the Wurlitzer is from Germany and the bar stools from a London diner which closed down," he said.

He now hopes to start a personalised holiday business on the Internet, picking up US tourists at the airport, putting them up with bed and breakfast in his adjacent cottage, conducting them on tours, and letting them relax in the diner.
