The UK hotel industry saw revenue fall in the first quarter of 2009, according to new research from Deloitte.

UK hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell 0.5% fall in the first three months of the year, according to Deloitte’s latest HotelBenchmark survey.

Despite this nationwide drop, revpar in London increased in the first quarter in by 3.4%.

In the final three months of 2007 revpar growth was 10.5%.

Regional UK hotels also saw a 1.5% increase in average room rate, bringing the average cost to £65.

Marvin Rust hospitality managing partner at Deloitte, said that overall the first quarter had been a positive one for hotels in London and the rest of the UK.

“Although the industry’s growth story is showing signs of slowing, the fact that there has been room rate growth is a big plus for hoteliers given the current economic conditions,” said Rust.
