The Marlon Abela Restaurant Corporation (MARC) has denied industry rumours that its private members’ club Morton’s in London is closing.

Sources have claimed that Morton’s has been quietly put on the market, with others suggesting it may even be forced to close.

However, MARC, which also owns the Michelin-starred Greenhouse and Umu restaurants in Mayfair, said there was no truth whatsoever to the rumours.

“Morton’s is not closing,” a spokeswoman for MARC told Caterersearch.

“On the contrary, we are hoping to carry out improvements on various parts of the building. We have not set a time scale for this yet nor have we identified whether the club will temporarily shut during these improvements or continue to operate.

“The improvements are likely to take place in the coming months.”

Marlon Abela is planning to launch a new restaurant in London's Knightsbridge as well as another in Boston, Massachusetts. Details of the yet-to-be-named restaurants have not been unveiled.

He will open his second A Voce restaurant in New York this autumn in the former site of Café Gray in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circus.
