Millennium & Copthorne Hotels is to open a new £60m four-star property at Southampton’s Ocean Village.
The 224-bedroom hotel will be built on the site of former boatyard Maritime Walk at the Princess Alexandra Dock for marina operator Marine Developments.
The design of the building, by HKR Architects, is based on a series of interlocking blocks with a raised glass fronted public walkway and restaurant area.
Guest accommodation will be a mixture of luxury suites, and individual and family guestrooms, with conference facilities, a restaurant and café bar, as well as spa.
David Curtis-Brignell, marketing director at Millennium & Copthorne, said the proposal would “really help to enliven Ocean Village Marina”.
“The site will become a key business and leisure destination and the link from the ballroom to the events area will assist to attract major events into Southampton.”
Building work is due to start Autumn 2008 with completion due late summer 2010.
