Scottish and Newcastle Pub Enterprises has bought the three-star Airlie Arms hotel in the ancient Angus town of Kirriemuir off an asking price in excess of £575,000.

The town, which is 20 minutes north of Dundee, was the birthplace of Peter Pan author JM Barrie and is popular with commuters, seasonal visitors for fishing and shooting, and all-year golf enthusiasts.

The hotel is a former coaching inn that was once part of a 17th century monastery.

It offers 10 en-suite bedrooms, an 80-seat function suite, and the 54-seat Wynd restaurant along with a lounge bar, snug bar, breakfast room, and resident’s lounge

“The hotel is a good all-round business and trades throughout the year, with a healthy mix of trade from tourists, commercial and sporting business, function business, including catering for coaching parties and offers high teas, funeral parties, weddings and private gatherings,” commented Denis Hillier at the Edinburgh office of Christie & Co.

Christie + Co sold the hotel on behalf of Gerald and Joy Kelly, who have run the property for nine years.
