Queen's Head

London and Edinburgh Inns has snapped up the Queen’s Head, a landmark country inn that sits alongside the Montgomery Canal near the Shropshire market town of Oswestry.

The detached, three-storey property has served as a country inn for the past 300 years, mostly recently under Mick and Di Poole who have developed a strong reputation for their traditional cask ales and home-cooked food.

It’s a high-turnover, food-led business with food accounting for 65% of sales.

Along with two bars, a 28-seat restaurant, a 30-seat conservatory, and a patio garden, the inn provides generous living facilities for staff and managers.

They include two double bedsits for staff on the first floor with a shared kitchen, bathroom and staffroom.

For the owner, there are three double bedrooms on the second floor, plus an office, bathroom, shower, kitchen-diner and living room on the first floor.

The sale was made through the Birmingham office of Christie + Co off an asking price of £1.375m.
