Punch Taverns introduces food solutions

Tuesday 06 September 2005 11:00

Punch Taverns has launched a new scheme to make sure all of its 8,000-plus pubs are serving hot food.

Food Solutions, in development for over a year, aims to help the two-thirds of Punch's burgeoning estate offering limited food to raise their game.

Punch catering development manager Steve Schaffer (pictured left) said: "This is not about the premium dining and gastro pubs in the group, but rather the tenants that have come into the business with little or no food knowledge."

Schaffer said many publicans were put off by food hygiene regulations, or thought food costing would be too complex.

Punch is presenting seven simple food packages through accredited suppliers, such as 3663. These range through basic "toastabags" to paninis, pizzas and Indian meals.

The company has also set up a consultancy service with Brakes, where the supplier discusses menu options with the tenant, advising on price and menu fatigue.

Punch believes offering food will boost its retailer's profits and match or differentiate the pub from its local competitors.
