Caterer wanted for £14m education contract in Northamptonshire

A contract worth £13.7m to provide school meals to schoolchildren in Northamptonshire has been put out to tender by the county council.

The local authority is looking for a company to take on a four year deal to become the county's new hot meals supplier for primary schools.

The new operator will also be expected to deliver the county council's goal of lifting school meal take-up from 28% to 45% over the next five years.

Northamptonshire County Council launched its new school meals service at the start of the school year, funded partly by an £8.5m Government grant.

A spokesman for the county council told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "The tender is for the supply of food for primary schools for the next four years. Currently food is being supplied though an interim contract from Cambridgeshire County Council."

The contract is expected to be awarded for four years initially, with the option to extend for an additional year and will take the form of a framework agreement.
