Spanish-hotel owner Steve McGlone has snapped up an historic Grade II-listed hotel opposite Chepstow Castle.

The Castle View hotel is in the centre of Chepstow, which sits at the entrance to the River Wye Valley on the Gloucestershire and Worcestershire borders.

Parts of the building were constructed 300 years ago as private residence Woodfield House. Extensions were made to the rear 150 years ago and, more recently, an 18th century cottage was incorporated to add more rooms.

The two-star hotel now offers 13 en-suite bedrooms, an open-plan beamed bar with a 38-seat dining area, a 22-seat restaurant, a lounge, and a two-bedroom owners’ or staff flat.

Its lawned trade garden provides seating for 30 guests.

The Bristol office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off a guide price of £695,000 on behalf of Dave Jones, who plans to retire.
