Alan Yau’s latest venture Sake No Hana has been named best new restaurant in the Good Food Guide’s first dedicated London edition.

The Mayfair-based Japanese eaterie beat Anthony Demetre and Will Smith’s second restaurant Wild Honey as well as Rowley Leigh's Café Anglais in Bayswater to the title.

Readers praised its “stunning” design, “superb” service and “pure and unadulterated” food.

Other winners included Tom Ilic in Battersea, who won best value restaurant, as well as One-O-One in Knightsbridge, which was crowned best fish restaurant, and the Carpenter’s Arms in Hammersmith, which was named best gastropub.

Tristan Mason, former Michelin-starred head chef of Orrery, was named best up-and-coming chef, despite having left the Marylebone restaurant after being excluded from this year’s Michelin guide.

Elizabeth Carter, editor of The Good Food Guide London, said all of the winners offer something more than just very good food.

“While décor ranged from downright simple to architectural high jinks, service was judged outstanding at all of them, and even at the very expensive end, readers felt they had value for money,” she said.
