Dalhousie Castle is latest Von Essen hotel to be sold

The 29-bedroom Dalhousie Castle hotel is believed to have been acquired for around half the price that it was sold to Von Essen nine years ago.

Situated within a 13th century castle on the banks of the River Esk, near Edinburgh, the hotel was originally put on the market for £7.5m following the collapse of Von Essen Hotels, with debts of nearly £300m, in April last year. However the price was reduced to £5m when a sale was not forthcoming.

The new owners are said to be Robert and Gina Parker who own a portfolio of hotels and self-catering properties, predominately in Northumberland.

Dalhousie was the only Scottish hotel owned by Von Essen, which it bought in 2003 from Nexus Hotels for a price which was believed to be around £10m.

There are now six of the former 27 Von Essen hotels which remain for sale through property agent, Christie + Co, including the Royal Crescent in Bath and Sharrow Bay in Cumbria.
