Amaya wins two ITV London awards

Indian restaurant Amaya swept the board at the Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards on Monday evening (4 April) when it was named New Restaurant of the Year.

Amaya, owned by Masala World, the group that runs Chutney Mary, received both Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant of the Year and New Restaurant of the Year awards.

Other winners included Tong Che Hwee of Hakkasan, who was named Outstanding London Chef, and Roka, which was named Oriental Restaurant of the Year.

Deceased PR guru Alan Crompton-Batt, credited as the godfather of modern restaurant public relations, was honoured with an Outstanding Contribution Award. His ex-wife, Elizabeth, collected the award on his behalf.

The annual awards, which recognise the capital's best cuisine, were held at the Marriott Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane. Judges included food critics Fay Maschler, Tracey MacLeod and Jay Rayner.
