Owner of former Michelin-starred Juniper is liquidated

The future of former Michelin-starred restaurant Juniper in Greater Manchester hangs in the balance after its parent company went into liquidation, Caterersearch has learnt.

The development comes just seven months after the restaurant in Altricham was taken over by Swiss chef Michael Riemenschneider and business partner Bill Treloar from former owners Paul Kitching and Katie O’Brien, who relocated to Edinburgh last year.

Riemenschneider and Treloar, who had previously also acquired the Michelin-starred Abbey in Cornwall, were forced to close both restaurants in February just weeks after losing their respective Michelin stars.

Juniper’s parent company, Soups, has now gone into compulsory liquidation rendering the restaurant’s future uncertain.

It is unclear how this affects the Abbey but the restaurant’s website states that it remains closed until further notice.

A spokesman for the restaurants told Caterersearch in February that Riemenschneider and Treloar were dealing with issues relating to the companies behind The Abbey and Juniper.

“While a resolution is being sought both restaurants will remain closed,” he said.
