Weekly hotel revpar up 4.5% in London

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) grew by 4.5% in London and by 2.6% in the provinces in the week ending 21 March, 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar increased to £90.02, up from £86.17 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy nudged ahead by 0.3 percentage points to 78.6% while average room rate rose by 4% to £114.53.

In the same week, regional revpar lifted to £43.95, compared with £42.83 a year ago. A 1.7 percentage point increase in occupancy to 64.2% offset a 0.2% decline in daily rate to £68.41.

Manchester hotels fared worse,  with revpar dropping by 8.9% thanks to a 10.1% fall in average rate.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 21 March fell by 10.1% in London and by 11.4% in the regions to £86.61 and £44.05 respectively. For the same period, revpar fell by 11% in Manchester to £51.82.
