Southwark Council wishes to invite expressions of interest from experienced quality led caterers able to operate a new refreshment facility using space at the John Harvard Library located at 211 Borough High Street London SE1 1JA. The Library is undergoing a major building modernisation programme and is scheduled to reopen in September 2009. The contract for this refreshment facility will be issued on a licence to use and operate basis.
The new refreshment facility offers 140sq m space in total inclusive of a servery and indoor dining area. It is positioned at the front of the Library overlooking Borough High Street and is ideally located to maximise the potential business opportunity from library customers and the public who work in and visit the local area .
The annual usage of John Harvard Library is currently in excess of 100,000 visits per year and it is anticipated that this will increase. Prior to refurbishment the Library operated for 50 hours a week Monday to Saturday and there are plans to extend the opening hours when the new style service reopens.
Offers over £5000 pa are invited. The licence fee will be inclusive of business rates, water rates, main services supply, and use of licensor’s fixtures and fittings for the operation.
The licence will be for an initial three years with an option to renew on a yearly basis, for two further years.
