The Barton Meat Company has opened the largest butchers operation for caterers in the UK located in Gorton, Greater Manchester.
This new £5.5m facility supplies the finest quality of meat alongside a range of high-quality "value added" products to hotels, restaurants, pubs and catering companies throughout the UK.
The Barton Meat Company offers day one for day two deliveries nationwide from the facility in Manchester and the company’s other depots in London and Northampton. The new operation is supported by the extensive distribution network of 3663 First for Foodservice, the UK’s leading foodservice distributor.
This flagship factory boasts a fully automated gammon curing and slicing operation, dedicated room allocation with skilled staff for key customers’ bespoke lines and a number of innovative training and experience programmes for chefs, including a meat appreciation programme, lamb cutting experience and steak experience.
Senior business operations director, Glenn Eastwood said: “The fit out of this huge premises and transfer from our former location was quite an undertaking. Everyone at the depot did an excellent job to make sure the transition was a smooth one and we had tremendous support from the 3663 team, who were committed to developing a first-class facility.
“We are now working to develop the factory into a central production facility which will supply both 3663 and our other depots in Northampton and London with agreed specified cuts and further processed lines,” he added.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans, attended the launch event and read a speech written by the Lord Mayor, Councillor James Ashley, JP. “I welcome such a high level of inward investment in what was once an industrious and highly productive area of Manchester,” he commented.
“I feel sure the Barton Meat Company will give the same consideration and attention to their neighbourhood as they give to their products, customers and workforce.”
The Gorton site is also home to a dedicated and skilled quality assurance team to meet and deliver all technical requirements, as well as a central telesales call centre and customer service team.
The site offers both an EEC licence and BRC (British Retail Consortium) standard.
