Sodexho Defence Services has won back the contract it held for 13 years to look after the Armed Forces in the Falkland Islands.
It won the contract in 1983 after the military base was set up in the wake of the war with Argentina.
It lost out in 1996 to Eurest Defence Support Services, part of Compass Group. It will again take over the reins on the island in October.
The five-year contract, worth £2m a year in turnover, covers a range of services including catering, refuse removal, cleaning and administrative support.
Andrew Leach, managing director, said: "Regaining a contract is always satisfying."
According to Roger Davie, business development executive at Sodexho Defence Services, the company's links with the Falklands precede the Ministry of Defence contract. It provided services to the contractors who built the base.
The island is in the south Atlantic, 8,000 miles from the UK.
Workers from the island of St Helena, a British colony also in the south Atlantic, will make up most of the 150 Sodexho staff on the island. They will work for six months at a time.
The company expects many of the workers it employed back in 1983 to still be there.
Sodexho will send between nine and 12 managers from the UK.
