Von Essen's Hotel Verta put on the market for £20m

Hotel Verta has been put up for sale one year after it was launched by Von Essen, for around £20m.

The five-star, 70-bedroom hotel was owned by Von Essen's founder, Andrew Davis. It was one of four hotels - alongside the Forbury in Reading, Llangoed Hall in Powys and Hunstrete House, near Bath - which did not form part of the administration of Von Essen following the collapse of the company with debts of more than £250m, in April.

However, it went into administration in its own right at the end of July, when Ernst & Young was appointed to run the hotel.

Situated on London's South Bank between Battersea and Wandsworth bridges, and adjacent to the London Heliport, Hotel Verta includes a basement spa and Patrisey restaurant, which serves modern British and European food.

David Creamore, director of London hotels for Christie & Co, which is handling the sale, said the property presented an opportunity for operators and investors to rebrand the hotel.

"Its situation near the London Heliport, its views over the Thames and its commitment to style and luxury make Hotel Verta one of the unique hotel experiences in the capital," he said

Offers are being invited for the hotel's 150-year lease, with 145 years remaining. Christie & Co is also handling the sale of the 27 hotels which formed part of the original Von Essen administration.
