Jam Tree owners to open third site in Clapham

Gastropub group the Jam Tree is to open a third outlet next month, after taking over a site in Clapham, south London.

Owned by Yann Roberts and Ashley Letchford, the group, which already operates pubs in Kensington and Fulham, is set to launch a new venue on the former site of the Grafton House in Clapham Old Town on 26 September.

The food will be overseen by executive chef James Browne, who has created a Colonial-inspired menu combining British ingredients with exotic flavours. Typical dishes will include Sontong Manis (battered sticky squid) with a chilli and garlic dipping sauce; herdwick rump of lamb with minted potato croquettes, peas, broad beans, wild garlic, jus; and Caribbean curried goat with basmati rice and mango salsa.

Interiors at the Jam Tree Clapham will feature mismatched seating - American-style refectory tables, café chairs and Chesterfield sofas as well as copper globe lights, hammered tin ceilings, antique grocery shelves and walls adorned with colourful jam-jar pop art and mirrors.

The front of the venue will be framed by floor-to-ceiling windows on one side, and a long copper-topped bar on the other, while at the back there will be a private room with its own bar and adjoining garden area.

Before setting up the Jam Tree, Roberts, who has almost 20 years' experience in catering and hospitality, launched the London franchise of the Pacha nightclub brand in Victoria. He also opened a new club in the Clapham area called the White House, which later grew to include the Mansion gastropub in Dulwich.

Meanwhile, Letchford has set up a number of London venues including Gigalum and the refurbished Clapham Grand.
