Mark Fuller takes over famous Notting Hill chippie

Restaurateur Mark Fuller has acquired historic fish and chip restaurant Geale's in London’s Notting Hill, Caterer can reveal.

Fuller, with partner and chef Garry Hollihead, will continue to operate Geale's under its current guise until December, when the restaurant will close for a revamp.

It will re-open in March featuring a new interior but offering its usual simple, high-end fish and chip fare.

“We will give Geale's a facelift but will continue to run it along exactly the same lines at is has been for the past 60 years with some small additions to the menu including caviar,” Fuller said.

Geale's first opened two days before the beginning of World War II in 1939 and was featured in Hollywood movie Notting Hill.

Fuller said there had been interest to take the Geale's brand outside of the UK and launch it in the United Arab Emirates. 

Fuller last week revealed details of the boutique hotel and restaurant he plans to open in London's Soho. The £5m Sanctum hotel, which will be located at 18-20 Warwick Street, will be a private members' hotel with 30 bedrooms and nine suites
