Frognel Hall hotel in Torquay, Devon, has been sold off an asking price of £795,000 to first-timers Steven and Helen Marks. Steven is following in the footsteps of his father, well-known local hotelier Ray Marks, who owns the Gleneagles hotel, the property that inspired cult comedy series Fawlty Towers. Frognel Hall has 27 bedrooms and a 65-seat restaurant. Christie & Co was the agent.
Shedden Hall sold
Shedden Hall hotel in Torbay, Devon, has been sold to Torquay hoteliers Martin and Sue Cranshaw for close to £750,000. The hotel has 26 bedrooms, a 40-seat restaurant, a swimming pool, a two-bedroom owners' flat and planning permission for four further family bedrooms. Carden & Morris was the agent.
Staggs' leap
The Caeau Capel hotel in Nefyn, Gywnned, has been sold off an asking price of £450,000. The country house hotel is set in one-and-a-half acres of landscaped gardens and comprises 18 bedrooms, a 40-seat restaurant and four-bedroom owners' accommodation. The property is a first-time hotel purchase for Ian and Ruth Stagg, who move to Wales from Buckinghamshire. Christie & Co was the agent.
Whistling Caprice
The Caprice hotel and Whistling oyster bar in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, has been sold to Maklisur Rahman off an asking price of £625,000. The hotel comprises 20 bedrooms and has a function room with space for 100 people. The oyster bar has capacity for about 200 people. Christie & Co was the agent.
Cleddau to expand
The Cleddau Bridge hotel in Pembroke has been sold for close to £1.25m to the Five Water Hotel Group, which already owns several other hotels in Wales. The three-star hotel comprises 24 bedrooms and overlooks the Cleddau estuary. Five Water plans to extend the hotel to 50 bedrooms and to increase and improve the hotel's conference facilities. Harts' desire
Scarthwaite Country House Hotel in Crook-o-Lune, Lancashire, has been sold to Michael and Trudi Hart for close to £395,000. The hotel features seven bedrooms and has a traditional lounge and bar. Robert Barry & Co was the agent.
Combined purchase
Recently formed company Nowell Hotels, headed up by experienced hoteliers Lesley Nowell and Gez Reilly, has bought its first two properties. It has bought the 38-bedroom Wortley House hotel in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, which features a function room with space for 300 people, and the 47-bedroom Springfield Park hotel in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, off a combined asking price of £3.5m. The Moorings hotel in Largs, Ayrshire, has been sold to John Corrigan for more than £360,000. The property comprises nine bedrooms, a 60-seat restaurant and a beer garden with space for 28 patrons. Christie & Co was the agent.
