Compass Group today revealed it had revised its menus to cope with soaring food inflation.

The catering giant, which spends around £3.5b per annum on food, said the menu re-engineering scheme, which is being applied “rigorously” across the group, will help combat rising prices of wheat and diary products.

In a trading statement for the three months to 31 December, Compass said it had enjoyed a strong quarter, with global revenues increasing in line with last year's organic growth rate.

Compass also said operating profits were running “well ahead” of last year's comparative period, with margins continuing to improve.

The company added that education division Scolarest was making “steady progress” during its recovery from recent poor trading.

UK revenues, accounting for around one-fifth of the business, and operating profit were broadly in line with the same period last year.
