Swansea injects £50m to revitalise seaside town

Wednesday 08 June 2005 17:03

Swansea is making a bid to revitalise its dining and leisure facilities with a new £50m entertainment complex.

The Welsh seaside town has already signed-up TGI Friday’s and Chiquito for its new Salubrious Place complex.

They are soon to be joined by 1970s and 1980s theme café bar, Lava Lounge, and a late night venue called Play from R&B Leisure.

The new additions join a swathe of new outlets including Spanish tapas bar chain, La Tasca, which opens this month, and an already opened 116-bedroom Premier Travel Inn and Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

The second phase of the Place development will see a 55,000sq ft casino operated by Aspinall’s and a 1,750-seat Vue 14-screen cinema open by the end of next year.

Andrew Davies, minister for Economic Development and Transport, said the regeneration demonstrated the high levels of investor confidence in the town.

“This project is one of a number of high quality developments currently underway in the city which are helping to develop Swansea as a vibrant and dynamic place,” he said.

The development is being led by Brunswick Mansford, part of the Richard Hayward Properties group, which manages a property portfolio in excess of £100m.
