Brits are continuing to holiday at home, with domestic overnight stays up 5% in the first quarter of 2011, according to tourist board VisitEngland.
Trips taken in England increased 4% compared with the first three months of 2010, while visits to attractions in England - including farms, wildlife attractions and gardens - were up 7%.
This boost in visitor numbers equates to an increase of more than £170m in spend in Britain.
Holiday travel was the main driver for the rise in domestic travel, with an increase of 6% in holiday trips taken in Britain, and 7% in England between January and March.
