Cambridgeshire Catering Services wins £14m school meals contract

Cambridgeshire Catering Services (CCS) has won a £13.7m contract to serve up school meals in neighbouring county Northamptonshire for the next four years.

The four-year contract was won by CCS after it delivered the service for the last school year on a temporary basis.

CCS provided school food to more than 200 sites in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Rutland, and it will supply the meals to Northamptonshire out of its production centre in Huntingdon.

The caterer is now expected to help fulfil the county council's goal of increasing school meals take-up from 28% to 45% over the next five years.

Richard Ware, CCS head of service and 2009 winner of the Public Sector Catey Award, said the company is pleased to have won the contract.

He said: "We are already providing about 6,000 meals and we are trying to help Northamptonshire increase its numbers so we are hoping to increase it to 18,000, that's the target.

"We've had lots of good comments from head teachers saying how much they have appreciated it so it's working very well."
